Must have makeup products for beginners

Are you feeling overwhelmed about what makeup products to buy? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, I’ve been there too, and so has everyone else. I’m here to help you figure out the essential makeup items you should have and where to find them. I’ll list a few must-haves, complete with links, to help you build a beautiful makeup kit.

But first, let me remind you that makeup is meant to make you feel good, not to hide your flaws, but to enhance and celebrate your unique features. When you walk into a store, it’s easy to feel like you want to buy everything, but that’s a mistake. First, take some time to understand what you like on yourself. Are you more of a foundation or BB cream person? Do you have oily, normal, or dry skin? Do you prefer kajal, eyeliner, or both?

Once you know what works for you, here are some beginner essentials to consider:

Moisturizer:

This is a crucial step that many overlook, but it’s vital for keeping your skin youthful. Moisturizing before applying makeup helps your skin stay hydrated and healthy. Choose a moisturizer that suits your skin type, good doesn’t have to mean expensive. Brands like Ponds and Himalaya offer great options.

Primer:

Primer is another essential that helps your makeup last longer and protects your skin from harsh chemicals. A small drop can make a big difference. Just make sure to choose one that matches your skin type, a drying primer isn’t ideal for dry skin, and an oily one isn’t good for oily skin.

Foundation/BB Cream:

This is often the most exciting part of makeup. Foundation or BB cream can completely transform your look by evening out your skin tone and highlighting your features. However, remember that foundation isn’t about brightening your skin; it’s about creating an even complexion. Always test the shade on your hand to see if it blends well with your skin.

My favorites are Maybelline New York Fit Me Matte Liquid Foundation and M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid..

Concealer:

Some might say it’s not necessary for beginners, but I think it is. On days when you don’t feel like using foundation or BB cream, a concealer can help even out your skin tone. It’s especially useful for areas like your forehead, nose, and chin, which tend to be darker. Choose a shade slightly lighter than your foundation.

My favorite is L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD

Eye Liner/Kajal:

This is a must-have product. Even if you’re wearing no other makeup, a little eyeliner or kajal can make you look polished. There are many options available, liquid, gel, and pencil liners in colors like black, brown, and blue.

My favorite is Maybelline New York Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner With Expert Eyeliner Brush

Mascara:

A bit of mascara never hurts, right? It’s one of my favorite products. A good mascara paired with a bright lip shade can be all you need for a party or a casual outing. I love Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara for its easy application and fantastic results.

Highlighter & Blush:

These two often come in palettes, which can be a great deal. Blush adds a rosy glow, while highlighter gives your skin a radiant finish. You can find great options from brands like Nykaa and Maybelline.

Lip shade:

Start with two or three shades, a brown nude, a bright red, and a pink. These shades complement all skin tones. Don’t forget to add a lip gloss or colored lip balm for everyday wear.

Compact Powder:

A good compact helps set your makeup and makes it last longer, even in hot weather. My favorites are Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation Compact and Maybelline New York Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder

Brushes:

To apply all these products, you’ll need a few brushes, a foundation brush or sponge, a blush brush (which can double as a highlighter brush), and an eye shadow brush.

Eyebrow pencil:

Never underestimate the power of a well-defined eyebrow. It can do wonders for your face. I recommend choosing a brown shade over black for a more natural look.
